Fair Housing + Strong Code Enforcement
Housing is the foundation of any community. Without safe, stable, and affordable homes, everything else starts to crack. Dupont has worked hard to keep our rentals inspected and our code enforcement strong, and I want to build on that tradition. Our inspectors and officers do their jobs well — but we can make the system easier, fairer, and more protective of the people who live here.
I’ve seen firsthand what happens when the balance tips the wrong way. After filing a code complaint with my landlord, the response wasn’t to fix the problem — it was to tell me to leave. That kind of retaliation has no place in a fair housing system. And I know I’m not the only one. Too many good, hard-working people in Dupont have felt pushed around, whether by landlords who don’t want to be held accountable, or by outside investors who scoop up homes and drive up rents.
As Mayor, I want to make sure tenants can exercise their rights without fear. That means adding clear protections into our borough codes to stop retaliation from landlords when a renter reports unsafe conditions or stands up for themselves. At the same time, landlords who follow the rules and care for their properties deserve a fair and efficient process that doesn’t bury them in red tape. It’s about balance — fairness for everyone, accountability for all.
Keeping Dupont safe also means protecting the stability of our neighborhoods. Families should be able to put down roots here without worrying about being forced out by outside LLCs and absentee owners. Local homes should belong first and foremost to local people.
Dupont is already a safe, proud town. My goal is to keep it that way — with housing policies that protect residents, respect property owners who do things right, and make sure our neighbors aren’t pushed around by greed or neglect.
Fair housing isn’t just about laws — it’s about dignity, stability, and protecting the people who make Dupont home.
